Tom Anderson, age 61, of Bird Island died Sunday, February 28, 2021 at his home.  Private family services will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island with Pastor Mandy France officiating.  Burial will be in the Bird Island City Cemetery.  Visitation is Sunday, March 21st at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia from 3-6 p.m.  Memorials are preferred.

Thomas John Anderson was born May 27, 1959 in Olivia, Minnesota to Harris and Betty (Wentland) Anderson.  He grew up in Bird Island and graduated from Bird Island Lake Lillian High School.  Tom attended college at Willmar Vo-Tech and then continued his education graduating from North Dakota State University.  He went to work for the USDA; first in Jordan then Detroit Lakes, before finally settling in Redwood Falls.  Tom retired on February 2, 2018 and came back part time to train farm loan officers. Tom married Crystal Christensen on December 13, 1991, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Tom and Crystal resided on their farm in rural Bird Island and were blessed with two daughters, Vanessa and Wendy.  He was currently the secretary for the Bird Island Lions Club.  Tom enjoyed farming, bowling, riding his motorcycle and going to the Little Longhorn Saloon in Austin, Texas.  He liked golfing and traveled to Detroit Lakes, Arkansas, and Texas to golf and visit friends.  Tom will be remembered for his kindness and empathy, how proud he was of his two daughters, and his love for his hobbies and community.

Tom is survived by his two daughters: Vanessa Anderson of Austin, TX and Wendy Anderson of St. Paul; his two brothers: Jeff (Linda) Anderson of Rochester and Joel Anderson of Kingman, AZ; his three nieces: Jennifer Anderson of Lakeville, Sarah Anderson of Stewartville and Melissa Anderson of South St. Paul; and his brother-in-law John (Darcy) Christensen of Hammond, WI.  Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Crystal.
