Thomas Altermatt age 66, of Sanborn, MN died on January 15, 2022, at Windom Area Hospital.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue on Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the Springfield Area Community Center.

Service will be held at the Springfield Area Community Center on Thursday at 11:00 am.

The clergy will be Chaplain Noel Wetter.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Thomas Patrick Altermatt was born on August 29, 1955, to Isadore and Bertha (Jenniges) Altermatt in Redwood Falls, MN. He was raised on a farm 2 miles East of Wanda. Tom attended elementary school at St. Mathias and graduated from Sanborn High School. On June 9, 1979, Tom married his high school sweetheart Debra Lyle at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda. The couple raised their five children on the century farm where Tom farmed his whole life. He also worked for over 40 years with Altermatt Construction. Tom served on the elevator board and coached elementary wrestling. He enjoyed wood working, watching westerns, and finishing projects for his children’s homes. Tom’s greatest love was his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; they enjoyed splitting wood, tubing, and building bonfires together.

He is survived by his wife – Debra; children – Alicia (Patrick) Gulbranson, Michael (Jennifer) Altermatt, Sarah (Colby) Pack, Isadore (Kimberly) Altermatt, Shannon (Timothy) Furth; grandchildren – Luke, Katelyn & Jacob Gulbranson, Andrew & Merik Altermatt, Braiden & Dylan Pack, Devynn, Gunnar & Kooper Altermatt, Eleanor & Emerson Furth; siblings Cathy (Chuck) Riegel, John (Char) Altermatt, Paul Altermatt, Margaret “Midge” (Sam) Marcum, Mary (Ken) Rocheleau, Peter (Melody) Altermatt, Anne Schwartz, and Susan Bierl; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents – Isadore “Buddy” and Bertha and Debra’s parents Grover and Marjorie Lyle.
