Steven Helmer, age 49, of Olivia, MN died on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Olivia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. A private family service will be held at the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.

Steven Helmer was born on September 23, 1971 to Robert and Karen (Anderson) Helmer in Olivia, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia. Steven worked for the Roseland Elevator for many years and then began working at the Minaqua Fishery until they closed. He returned to working in agriculture at the Co-op Country Farmer’s Elevator in Danube. On February 23, 1998, Steven married Dawn Kaiser in Las Vegas and they were blessed with three children. Steven loved being active outdoors with fishing and hunting. Woodworking was a hobby of his; he built many specialty pieces including tables, shelves, and clocks. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Watching birds with his little “Monster”, Regan, brought him immense joy.

Steven is survived by his three children: Alen Helmer (and significant other Morghen Mitchell) of Maple Grove, Spencer Helmer of Morton, and Regan Helmer of Olivia; his former-wife, Dawn Helmer of Olivia; his sisters, Stacey Helmer (and significant other Jeff Ousky) of Belview and Sarah (Darin) Pauley of Lakeville; and many nieces, nephews, and other family. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Bob & Karen, and his niece, Brittney Knutson.
