Ruth Rust
The funeral service for Ruth Rust, 91, of Marshall, formerly of rural Vesta, will be Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the Vesta Cemetery.
Ruth Irene (Schulz) Rust was born on January 23, 1931, in Wood Lake, to William and Irene (Busiahn) Schulz. She grew up in Wood Lake until the family moved to Seaforth when she was a freshman in high school. Ruth graduated from Wabasso High School and later worked at JC Penney and the ASC office in Redwood Falls. On September 12, 1954, Ruth was united in marriage to Dale Rust at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Seaforth. The couple made their home and raised their two children on Dale’s family farm in Underwood Township, working side by side for many years.
Ruth was a skilled seamstress and an excellent baker. She made fantastic pies, bread, and rolls. She loved cats, nursing many kittens and cats back to health over the years. Ruth enjoyed ice skating, and she taught her daughters and grandchildren to skate as well. In her free time, Ruth like to read and play piano and card games. She enjoyed hosting the family for holidays and get-togethers. Ruth and Dale traveled many places together, visiting much of the United States, as well as England. Ruth lived on the farm until 2015, when she moved briefly to Boulder Estates in Marshall, before moving to Avera Morningside Heights in 2017.
Ruth died on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She is survived by her daughters Jane (Jim) Vraspir of Hopkins and Jill (Paul) Voxland of Northfield; grandchildren Emily (Matt) Tobin, John Bjorklund, and Zachary Bjorklund; great-grandchildren Oliver Joseph and Hayes Dale Tobin; as well as many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, and brother Bill Schulz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minneapolis Heart Institute.
