Russell Earl Jeppesen

Russell Earl Jeppesen of Morgan, MN, passed away March 19, 2023 at Gil-Mor Manor.  Reaching the age of 91 years, sharing his birthdate with his wife, Mary. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from Morgan United Methodist Church in Morgan, MN. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Morgan United Methodist Church. A light lunch will be served after the funeral service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Russell was born December 26, 1931 at Redwood Falls Hospital to Emil William Jeppesen and Laura Anna Larsen, the youngest of 4 children.  He was the 3rd generation to farm the family dairy farm and farmed until his retirement in 1997 when they moved into Morgan.  In 2019 Russell and Mary moved into Assisted Living at Gil-Haven.

Russell attended rural School District #49 and graduated from Morgan High School in 1950.  He entered the US Army in 1952 proudly serving with the Army Security Agency in Germany until 1955 when he was Honorably Discharged in April 1960.

One day shy of 70 years, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Wendland on March 20, 1953 in Springfield, MN.  Mary then joined Russell in Germany from August 1953 to March 1954.

In 1962, they purchased the family homestead where he and Mary raised 6 children.  Russell was active in the ARC and instrumental in setting up the DAC for disabled citizens of Redwood County.  He was active in St. John Lutheran Church of Morgan.  He proudly served with the Morgan VFW Honor Guard.

During retirement, Russell was the maintenance technician and got his boiler license at Gil-Mor.  He also mowed the expansive lawns for St John’s Nursing Home and Gilfillan Estates.

Russell is survived by his wife, Mary; children Barbara (Randy) Samarzia of Holyoke, MN, Michael (Shirley) of Miltona, MN, Peggy (Doug) Anderson of Ghent, MN, Valerie of Windom, MN, Ben (Kristel) of Morgan, MN, and Jaysen (Danielle) of Boone, IA, 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews, as well his sister, Irene Hansen Williams of Alexandria, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Alton, and grandson, Chad.
