Roger was born on September 13, 1938 to Herbert and Lillie Hoek at home in Selma Township. He attended and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1956. Roger married Carolyn Pederson on October 20, 1961 at the American Lutheran Church in Windom, MN and they shared 62 wonderful years together.

Roger was born on the farm where he lived his whole life. He was so proud of having a century farm. As a part of Hoek Bin Moving, he and his family moved many grain bins in southwest Minnesota over the years. Roger had Retinitis Pigmentosa so he had to leave behind his farming career. Despite his handicap, he made many beautiful woodworking projects for his family. Roger and Carolyn purchased a camper in 1984 and attended many music and bluegrass festivals in Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri where they made lifelong friends. He enjoyed attending family school events and area sporting events. One of his favorite ways to start his mornings was with the family and friends who stopped by for coffee time.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn; son Scott (Julie) Hoek of Comfrey; daughters Angela Hoek of New Ulm and Tanya (Dan) Guild of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren – Michelle and Joshua Hoek, Autumn, Carson and Treyson Guild; brother Richard (Glennice) Hoek; and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
