Rita Marie Trapp was born on June 8, 1937 in Bird Island, MN to Andrew and Bertha (Dummer) Fox. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1955. On May 18, 1957, Rita was united in marriage to Charles Trapp at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They made their home on a farm in Blomkest, MN, and to this union, seven children were born. She worked several part time jobs while her kids were growing up including the Olivia Canning Factory, waitressing at the Harry’s Corner Truck Stop, and as a caregiver at Kindlehope in Willmar for many years. She perfected her craft of cooking by feeding nine people daily, and did a lot of canning from her garden to feed her growing family. Rita kept the household running smoothly; tending to the needs of her children and keeping them in line. She was a loving mother who was devoted to each of her children, giving them the one-on-one attention that they each needed. After Charles passed away in December of 2016, Rita moved to Olivia to be near family, thoroughly enjoying her ‘little house’ in town. Rita liked time spent visiting with family and friends, tending to her small flower garden around her house, and reading. Her love of the Lord and strong faith was evident in all that she did, and she was a dedicated member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. On October 27th, she suffered a major stroke, and on November 2nd she was called home to her Savior surrounded by her family. Rita will always be remembered for making the busyness of raising seven children look effortless and being a caring mother and grandmother.
Rita is survived by her children: David (and Jan) Trapp of Kandiyohi, Theresa Trapp of Verona, NJ, Kevin (and Karen) Trapp of Willmar, Steve Trapp of Grove City, Deb Trapp of Little Falls, Jeff Trapp of St. Cloud, and Laura (and Jason) Pierskalla of Kimball; her grandchildren: Nate and Nic Trapp, Madison, Mckenzie, and Tristan Pierskalla; step-grandchildren: Vicki (and Bill) Baxendale and Susan (and Skip) Fjerstad; her step-great-grandchildren: Katelyn and Jack Fjerstad and Connor Baxendale; her sisters: Katie Marks of Olivia, Janet (and DuWayne) Haney of Olivia, Suzanne (and Scott) Sanders of Apple Valley, and Jean (and Dean) Rood of Murdock; her brother, John (and Kay) Fox of Bird Island; and many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; siblings: Arline Kiecker, Daniel Fox, Mary Ellen Fox, Diane Fox, and Virginia Fox; and brothers-in-law, Quentin Marks and Elgar Kiecker.
