Phyllis Abbas
Phyllis Abbas, age 72, of Sun City, Arizona passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. Joe Steinbeisser as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bechyn. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN.
Phyllis Jean Abbas was born April 24, 1952 in Redwood Falls, MN to Elmer and Mary (Malacek) Kodet. She graduated from Morton High School in 1970 and married her high school sweetheart Stanley Abbas on June 20, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn. They lived in Sauk Rapids for ten years before settling in Danube in 1980. She was a waitress at Jackpot Junction in Morton retiring in 2010. Phyllis and Stan moved to Sun City, AZ that same year spending winters there and enjoyed summers on Mille Lacs Lake. She was a loving and kind person. Phyllis had a charming smile and a laugh that everyone loved. She could easily become friends with anyone and everyone. Phyllis liked dancing to polka, playing cards, especially snozzle, playing marbles and BINGO. Phyllis enjoyed time spent on a yearly fishing trip to Lake Winnibigoshish with her siblings. She was known for her amazing apple strudel and goulash for the grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Stanley of Sun City, AZ; her three children: Jerry (and Danielle) Abbas of Owatonna, James (and Shawna) Abbas of Monticello and Jennifer Owens of Bloomington; her seven grandchildren: Nicholas, Katlyn, Keegan, Kyra, Kambria, Andrew, and Austin (and Chelsey); her five siblings: Elaine Beadell, Galen (and Vicki) Kodet, Don (and Renee) Kodet, Dennis (and Judy) Kodet, and Betty (and Dan) Bennett. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister and her son-in-law Kristopher Kester.
