Phyllis A. Rustad

Phyllis A. Rustad, age 95, of Sacred Heart, died Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Olivia Hospital.  Funeral services will be Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart.  The Rev. Michelle Kleene will officiate.  Burial will be in Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery south of Sacred Heart.  Visitation for Phyllis will be on Friday one hour prior to the funeral service at the church in Sacred Heart.  Arrangements with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Phyllis A. Rustad was born on March 16, 1928, on the family farm north of Kerkhoven, Minnesota to Charles and Nina (Miner) Corle.  She grew up on the family farm and attended country school near her home.  She later graduated from Kerkhoven High School.  Phyllis was united in marriage to Rubin Rustad on September 1, 1946, at her parent’s home north of Kerkhoven.  They moved to Sacred Heart in 1956, and Phyllis assisted her husband at the telephone office operating the switchboard.  She worked at the telephone company for six years and then went to work at Warner Manufacturing for the next 18 years.  She was an active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church until it’s closing.  She then became a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was active there as well.  Phyllis enjoyed camping, fishing, and loved spending time in her garden tending to her plants and flowers.  She loved putzing with crafts, quilting with the ladies at church, playing cards with family and friends, and loved a good rummage sale.  She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking cookies for her family.  Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her two sons:  Bob (and Linda) Rustad of Svea, and Paul (and Lora) Rustad of Sacred Heart; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rubin, her sons Daniel and John, and her daughter-in-law Virginia.
