Peggy Marlene Buchanan was born on February 20, 1940 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to William and Pearl Garrett. She graduated from high school in Arkansas. She moved to Minnesota in 1992. Peggy worked for the Alco store in Olivia as well as the Sunwood Nursing Home in Redwood as a housekeeper. Peggy was a very hardworking woman; she provided for her family and made sure that they had everything they needed. When there was a task to do, she worked hard to get it done – “why put off for tomorrow what you can do today?” Canning the produce from her garden kept her very busy and she made sure that everyone stayed on task until it was all done. Being the matriarch of her family, Peggy took care of her family and sometimes had to act as the “referee” to keep the peace. You could call her the glue that held her large family together, and she loved nothing more than time spent with all of them. She was a member of Faith United Methodist church in Olivia where she was active as the secretary for many years. She was active in her community by volunteering her time at the food shelf. Peggy enjoyed baking treats, especially donuts, no-bake cookies, and buckeyes. She also loved horses, crocheting, and Elvis Presley. As Peggy would say, “it’s not goodbye, it’s see ya later”

Peggy is survived by her son, Joseph “Dan” Buchanan of Olivia; her daughter-in-law, Lori Buchanan of Franklin; her special non-biological daughter, Veronica “Goober” Rykhus of New London; her 18 grandchildren; her 33 great-grandchildren; her five great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Beverly Garrett of Milbank, SD; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joel Buchanan; daughter, Jackie Sjolie; grandsons, Michael Buchanan, Jeremy Buchanan and William Buchanan; great-granddaughter, Sloan Buchanan; and brother, George Garrett.

Blessed Be Her Memory
