Patsy Lee Fitzner was born April 11, 1939, to Earl and Geraldine (Durheim) Cartwright in Devils Lake, ND. She was baptized as an infant at EUB Odessa and later confirmed in the Methodist Church in Ortonville, MN. She later attended country school and graduated from Ortonville, MN in 1958.

Even from an early age, family was always at the center of Patsy’s life. Growing up she loved fishing with her dad and working with her parents at their Champlain gas station. She would later go on to meet the love of her life, Don Fitzner. They were united in marriage on October 25, 1959, and later started a family of their very own, having been blessed with three children.

After college, she worked as a bookkeeper at the canning factory in Big Stone, SD, and would continue in that field for most of her life. But the highlight of her career was working alongside her husband Don and children at the family business, Fitzner Auctioneers. She was an integral part of building and maintaining the business, bookkeeping, and running the auctions.

Some of the things that Patsy enjoyed were reading, traveling, and cooking. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with friends and family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending events, shopping together, offering words of advice, telling jokes, or hosting family holidays. Christmas was Patsy’s favorite and you could always find her decorating, baking, or wrapping presents last minute.

When she wasn’t delighting in the joys of family, you could find her putting her green thumb to use in the garden, having coffee with friends, attending bible study, or pampering her pets. A devout Christian, Patsy was a pillar of faith within her family and community. She was such a warm and loving soul and you just felt at ease in her presence. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and adored her.

Patsy is survived by her three children, Jody Boettcher of Renville, Kim McFall of Hector, and Todd (Lisa) Fitzner, of Renville. Grandchildren: Shane (Kayla) Fitzner, Ashley (Brennan) Poderzay, Tiffany (Nick) Schultz, Abby (AJ) Anthony, Jeremy Boettcher (fiancé Brittany), Jacob Boettcher, Hunter McFall, and Haley McFall. Siblings: Brother Larry Cartwright and sister-in-law Elaine, sister-in-law Darlene Loeschke, brother-in-law Wally Sayles, sister-in-law Karen Fitzner, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
