Patrick Jude Kubesh was born on March 17, 1928 to Frank and Anna (Herdina) Kubesh on the family farm in Troy Township. He was one of eleven siblings. He graduated from Danube High School and later attended Minneapolis Business School where he met Elaine Friauf. They were married on October 15th, 1949. Their marriage was blessed with two children.  They raised their family on a farm, north of Olivia, where his grandson and family now reside.

Pat’s legacy is that of a man who lived his life close to the earth, close to his gardens, close to his Bohemian heritage, close to his family and close to His God. It was a life lived in balance. He worked hard and played hard. He was proud to be called a farmer for 32 yrs and just as proud to be called Renville County Commissioner for 16 yrs. As County Commissioner he served on many local, county and state boards. He also served as township clerk for 13 yrs and ASCS loan inspector for 8 yrs.

In their retirement years Pat & Elaine traveled, eventually landing in Pharr, Texas where they spent 38 wonderful years dancing, swimming, walking, playing cards and drinking Old Fashions with the many new friends they gathered along life’s way. Time spent with family, friends and neighbors were some of their fondest memories.

Pat was lovingly known as “papa” by almost everyone, especially his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many family gatherings were centered around simple activities such as butchering chickens, freezing corn, making apple pies, canning pickles, playing cards and serenading them with his infamous song “All Pooped Out.”

During his last hospital stay, fighting for his breath, he sang it one last time. At the age of 96, our precious Papa was finally all pooped out. His blessings were many on this earth and his life rich, full and wonderful but nothing compared to the abundance of life with his Heavenly Father.

Pat will fondly be remembered by all who knew him as “one of the good guys.” His kindness, generosity, honesty, humor and wisdom are gifts to be cherished.

Pat is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Elaine of Olivia; his two children: Marilyn Gartner of Buffalo and Dave (Meg) Kubesh of Danube; his special nephew, Jack Fink of Olivia; his six grandchildren: Alisa (Joe) Gardner, Adam (Katherine) Gartner, Mariel (Steve) Novacek, Mike (Linda) Gartner, Angela (Greg) Seidl, and Jeff (Jamie) Kubesh; and his 15 great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; ten siblings; and son-in-law, Bob Gartner.

Blessed Be His Memory
