Owen Lund, age 85, of Bird Island, MN died on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center. A memorial service will be Friday, April 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bird Island with Pastor Dan Croonquist officiating. Burial will be in the Bird Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. before the service at the church. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.

Owen Lorn Lund was born on December 29, 1936 in Montevideo, MN to Olaf and Lilia (Armstrong) Lund. Owen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church in rural DeGraff, MN. He attended country school through eighth grade, and completed his high school education at Maynard High School, graduating in 1954. Owen served his country in the National Guard from 1957 to 1963. Owen was united in marriage to Marlene Hochstein on May 19, 1957 at Havelock Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo. Their marriage was blessed with four children. They made their home in Bird Island where he was a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He worked for Northern States Power/Excel Energy for over 25 years.  After retiring he began his full time role of babysitting for his youngest granddaughter, which he enjoyed immensely. Spending time outdoors fishing, camping, and traveling, which brought him much joy. Owen will be remembered for being a faithful friend and dedicated family man.

Owen is survived by his wife, Marlene Lund; children: Michael (and Julie Braun) Lund, James (and Natalie) Lund, Melanie (and Carl) Rudeen, and Lisa Lund; grandchildren: Addison Lund, Lilia Lund, Sage Lund, Justine Rudeen (and Tony Dischler), Tony Rudeen, and Claire Rudeen, Burkley Erickson, Chase Erickson, and Kenyon Erickson; great-grandchildren, Baylee Ortiz and Josiah Lund; sisters: LeAnn (and Gene) Zimmerman and DeAnn Hetrick; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karol (and Roger) Sorum, Galen (and Mary Jane) Hochstein, John Hochstein, and Curt Loken; best friends and fellow travelers, Milo and Jackie Uecker; and many nieces, nephews, and God children. Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Lilia Lund; his father and mother-in-law, John and Violet Hochstein; brother, Francis Lund; granddaughter, Mercedes Lund; sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona Loken, Arlys (and Don Jolstad), Sharon (and Donald) Thorkelson; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra (and Jim) Draeger; Ed Hetrick, and niece, Mari Jane Dummer.
