Marlyce Elaine Becker

Marlyce Elaine (née Wheeler) Becker, 88, of St. Louis Park, MN, formerly of North Redwood, passed away on July 17, 2023 from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Marlyce was born on November 22, 1934 to Edna (née Stewig) and Calvin Wheeler.  She had one sister, Carol.  Marlyce graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1952 and was united in marriage to E. Robert Becker on August 30, 1953 at Middle Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church in rural Renville County, MN.

Marlyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, embroidering, bird watching, and reading, especially cookbooks.  She created a loving and supportive home for her family and many pets including cats, dogs, bunnies, a gerbil, and a horse.  For many years she canned the produce from her garden into innumerable quarts of fruits and vegetables.   She loved raising her girls and supporting them in Girl Scouts, Youth Fellowship, and Job’s Daughters.  She enjoyed entertaining at their home on Lakes Florida and Andrew in the Spicer-New London, MN area and traveling with her husband visiting friends and family throughout the United States, Columbia, South America, Mexico, Hawaii, and Portugal. Marlyce enjoyed her annual girls weekend with cousins-in-law Marge Becker and Dorothy Hansen.  After Bob passed away Marlyce became a foster grandparent for Lutheran Social Services in the New London-Spicer elementary school district and a sales clerk at Herberger’s department store in Willmar.  Eventually Marlyce relocated to Plymouth, MN to be closer to her children.

Marlyce is survived by her beloved daughters; Beth (Bernard), Bemidji, MN, Rebecca (Paul), Eagan, MN, and Bobbie (Darrell), Lindstrom, MN; grandchildren; Tristyn Jaymes (Whitney), Duluth, MN, Tyrell Robert (fiancée Jackie), Alexandria MN, Axel William (fiancée McKenna), Delano, MN, and Samantha Lynn, Manchester, TN; great-grandchildren; Adaline Keri-Ann and Harrison Robert; and sisters in-law Tedda and Janet Becker, brother-in-law Reginald Becker, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, an infant son, Robert Todd, her parents and sister, Carol Rieker and brother-in-law Elmer Rieker, her parents-in-law Florence (née Draeger) and Elmer Becker, her brother-in-law, Dr. Jerry Becker, and sister-in-law Ramona Hess.

Marlyce’s family would like to thank the memory care and hospice staff that loved and cared for her, especially Farris and Sarah. They enriched her life and made her feel safe and comfortable.

Marlyce easily appreciated and cared for others and in return she was deeply loved by others.  Mom we will greatly miss you. We know that your presence will always be with us.
