Marlene Margaret Ewer was born on December 4, 1935 to Ralph and Emma (Schindeldecker) Groff in Savage, MN. She attended District #15 school in Savage before her family moved to Lake Lillian. Marlene helped on her family’s farm and cared for her brother. At the Exchange Café in Olivia, Marlene met Robert Ewer. On April 24, 1954 they were united in marriage at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia. They made their home in Olivia and were blessed with two children. In their mid 40’s they both obtained their GED together. She worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store for many years. Together, Marlene and Bob were members of Builders For Christ and OWLS at their church in Olivia. They were both very active members of the church even acting as janitors and doing the lawn care in earlier years. She was also a member of the ladies aid at her church, Red Hat Society, and American Legion Auxiliary. Marlene volunteered her time and talents of playing piano at the Olivia Nursing Home. She and Bob traveled to Israel and Germany and enjoyed many camping trips throughout the United States with their family. Marlene enjoyed cooking and baking; she was always the best hostess for family gatherings. Gardening, listening to music, watching birds, and crocheting were a few of her favorite hobbies. Marlene will be remembered for her strong faith and being a wonderful caretaker for her family.
