Maria T. Lux age 52, of Sleepy Eye, died on April 25, at her home.

Private Family Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Maria Therese (Bastian) Lux was born on April 11, 1968 in New Ulm, MN to Jerome & Myra (Schmitz) Bastian. She grew up in St. George; attended St. George School grades 1-6 and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1986. Maria attended St. Ben’s and earned an Elementary Education degree. In the fall of 1990 she started her teaching career at St. Mary’s Elementary for 28 years. In 1993 Maria married Matthew Lux at St. Mary’s Church in Sleepy Eye. She was involved in St. Mary’s Parish and school in various ways, played piano at Mass and school and was active in 4H in Brown and Nicollet Counties. She enjoyed family time, sporting events and school musicals. She spent summers surrounded by children at Learn-A-Lot Daycare. She was passionate about the reading curriculum at St. Mary’s. In 2019 Maria received the Mike Maurer Award from St. Mary’s School. Children were always a central point in her life and she showed it through teaching.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Lux, children, Anna and Jacob Lux, parents, Myra and Jerome Bastian, sister, Brenda (Kevin) Rients, brothers, Mark (Amy) Bastian, Steve (Karen) Bastian and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hilda and Edward Schmitz and Nora and Louis Bastian.
