Margie Ann (Bruns) Bakker
Margie Ann (Bruns) Bakker, 82, of Renville, passed away on March 30, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. A public walk-through visitation will be held Saturday, April 3rd, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in rural Renville, followed by a private family service at 11 with Pastor Anna Williamson officiating. Masks and social distancing will be required for the visitation hours and funeral service. A livestream of the funeral services can be seen on Saturday at 11 a.m. via Ebenezer Presbyterian Church’s Facebook page. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Margie was born on October 19,1938, she was the youngest of nine children born to Dick and Fanny (Stomberg) Bruns. At a young age, she developed a strong work ethic, learning from her sister the responsibilities of helping to take care of a home after her mother passed away when she was four years old.
Upon graduating from Renville High School in 1955, she was employed as a Nursing Assistant at the Granite Falls Hospital.
On March 16, 1957, she married the love of her life, Wendell, at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in rural Renville, where she was also baptized and confirmed. She loved her church and spent many hours serving on numerous committees, with the food committee being her favorite. She also especially enjoyed listening to Wendell play the organ during church services.
Wendell and Margie spent their entire married life on their farm north of Renville, raising their five children. She loved taking care of her home and serving her family. Some of her favorite activities included cleaning, ironing, doing laundry, cooking and baking, and was more than happy to share her creations with everyone.
Margie selflessly dedicated much of her time to helping and serving others in any way she could, whether this meant popping into her children’s houses to tidy up, or attending to residents over her 27 years working at the Renvilla Nursing Home. She spent countless hours helping to raise her beloved grandchildren, frequently reading to them, playing games, and treating them to her freshly made baked goods. She was delighted to become a great grandmother. She was overjoyed to see the MN Twins win two World Series in her lifetime. Margie was a wonderful woman, a dedicated wife, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to experience her warmth and love.
Margie is survived by her husband of 64 years Wendell; her son, Joel (Cheryl) Bakker of Renville; daughters, Julie (Michael) Saxton of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jane (Todd) Groen of Renville; and Joy (Van) Peterson of Renville. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Michael (Emily) Bakker of Sacred Heart; Kelly (Kyle) Severin of Alexandria, MN; Laura (Trever) Taggart of Willmar, Alyssa (Jon) Jasper of Urbandale, IA; Kayla (Jeremiah) Off of Raleigh, NC; Courtney (Carter) Brock, of Sioux Center, IA, Jacob Groen of Renville, Quinn, Savanna, and Adrienne Peterson of Renville, and by eight great-grandchildren, Nora, Ryan, and Nathan Bakker; Lauren and Carter Severin, Addalyn and Sawyer Jasper, and Lucy Off; Sisters-in-laws, Luella Bruns, Frances Bruns, her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jay; and siblings Dorothy (Glen) Bredesen, Henry (Jeanette) Bruns, John Bruns, Leonard (Mildred) Bruns, Andrew (LaVerne) Bruns, LuVern (Eldon) Engle, Harry Bruns, Bennie (Karen) Bruns.
