Lorraine Janet Kohout

Lorraine Janet Kohout, 82, of Olivia, died Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Olivia Hospital.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville.  The Rev. Joseph Steinbeisser will be the celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Olivia.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continues on Wednesday one hour prior to the Mass at the church in Renville.

Lorraine Janet Kohout was born on September 17, 1941, in Morton, Minnesota to Clifford and Florence (Lothert) Reese.  Lorraine and her family lived in the Olivia, Bird Island, and Morton areas while she was growing up.  She graduated from Olivia High School in 1959.  She was united in marriage to Edward Houdek on November 28, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn.  Lorraine and Ed farmed south of Danube, and together they raised hogs.  Following Ed’s death in October of 1982, she moved into Renville and provided day care for several families and also worked at Warner Manufacturing in Sacred Heart for a short time.  On August 13, 1988, she was united in marriage to Bernard Kohout at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville.  They made their home south of Danube and lived there until moving to their lake home on Swenson Lake near Pennock in 2006.  Lorraine was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the CCW.  She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, spending time at the lake and fishing, and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her children: Chris (and Eloid) Penke of Danube, Sue (and Tom) Clemen of Albany, and Nancy (and Joe) Poll of Belgrade; her daughter-in-law Rhonda Houdek, her nine grandchildren:  Matt, Andy, Cassie, Becky, Ben, Ashley, Ellie, Amanda, and Levi; 17 great grandchildren; her sibling: Carol (and Jim Lippert) Seehusen of Olivia, her sisters-in-law: Donna Reese of Watertown, MN, and Elaine Reese of Buffalo, MN; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Ed and Bernard, her son Michael, her granddaughter Rachel, and her siblings: Stanley, Aaron, and Leland Reese, and Marlene Kohout.
