Loren Roger Blick was born on September 7, 1943, in Springfield, MN to Edner and Julia Blick. He graduated from Springfield Public School in 1961 and worked in Willmar as a carpenter for a number of years. He then attended Pipestone Vocational School for ag banking. After graduating, he was employed at the State Bank of Sleepy Eye, working as a cashier/loan officer. He married Cheryll (Mertz) Blick on December 16, 1978, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They had two daughters, Jennifer and Kelly. After leaving the State Bank, Loren was a real estate broker until he retired in 2015.

Loren’s greatest joys in life were his family, helping those in need and making others laugh. He was active in the community, serving on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Corn Days Parade Committee and the Sleepy Eye Foundation, leading fundraising for Christmas wreaths on the city light poles, receiving the Shining Star Community Service Award in 2006, and volunteering many hours at St. Mary’s, helping wherever he was needed. He especially enjoyed helping build the sets for the school musicals. He also loved hunting, woodworking, working outdoors and everything about Christmas. Loren never knew a stranger; he always had a kind word, a story or a joke for everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryll, of 43 years, and his daughters, Jennifer and Kelly. He is also survived by his in-laws Nancy Blick, Brad (Linda) Mertz, Lori (Rick) Gilliland, Missy Maas, Rachel (Jeff) Mertz, and Corinne Mertz, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edner Jr. and Lowell, his twin sister LuAnn, his parents-in-law Nick and Rosemary Mertz, brothers-in-law Kim Mertz and Nick Mertz III, and his nephews Charles, Gary and Cole.
