Lois (Bruns) Beckendorf

It is with both heavy hearts and joyful memories that we announce the passing of our mom, Lois (Bruns) Beckendorf, who peacefully departed this world for her new heavenly home on December 21, 2023, at the age of 75. A celebration of Lois’s life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 3:30:pm at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place later.  Arrangements are with Dirk-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Born on November 2, 1948, to Andrew and Laverne (Negen) Bruns in Granite Falls, Minnesota.  Lois went to Danube Public school.  She married the love her life Gary on January 8, 1965, at Middle Creek United Methodist Church. Together, Lois and Gary spent their 56 years in rural Renville where they shared 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  Lois enjoyed visiting with her friends and community members as an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and working at Control Data, Blackburn and 37 years at Service Enterprises, Inc.

Lois committed her life to nurturing her family and tending to the things she held dear.  She was a true farmer’s wife, finding joy in the simplicity of a well-tended garden and the artistry of preserving its bounty through canning.  Lois was particularly known for her green thumb and passion for plants.  In the kitchen, Lois was a culinary artist, renowned for her baking skills.  Her home was always filled with the delightful aroma of freshly baked treats that brought warmth and comfort to family and friends alike.  Her homemade salsas and jams, crafted from the surplus of her garden, were a testament to her resourcefulness and dedication to providing for her loved ones.  Lois had a keen eye for antiques at flea markets and utilized the secrets and treasures of her infamous East Porch to keep her home decorated for every season and occasion, should family or friends drop by for homemade bars and coffee.  Lois’s collectables told a simple story of a life well-live, with each piece holding a special memory or sentiment to her. Lois loved to go for drives to the Minnesota river bottom and finding her favorite bakeries on any road trip.

Lois’s legacy will live on through her favorite recipes and cherished family including her daughter Deb (Terry) Chiglo and their children: Kennedy (Mike), Carter, Harrison, and Jackson; her daughter Dianne Beckendorf (Mike Verschelde) and her son Austin; her son Bryan (Nancy) Beckendorf and their children Brandon (Elizabeth) and their children August and Maeven, Trevor and his son Bohdi; her son Brad (Jennifer) Beckendorf and their children: Meghan, Jessica, Natalie, and Heidi, her sister Linda (and Terry) Marguth, her sister Lori (and Dave) Lang, and her brother Kevin (and Jennifer Samuelson).  Lois is preceded by her beloved husband, Gary Beckendorf, her parents Andrew and Laverne Bruns, brother Mike Bruns, and niece Karina Bruns.
