Lavonne Von Spreecken

Lavonne Von Spreecken, age 90, of Bird Island died Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the Olivia Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, January 8, 2024 at 1:15 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. Joe Steinbeisser as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for Lavonne will be at the church Monday for one hour prior to the mass. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service in Olivia.

Lavonne Margaret Von Spreecken was born April 18, 1933 in Norfolk Township, rural Bird Island, Minnesota to Walter and Mabel (Hannegrefs) Kopel.  She attended Norfolk country school through the sixth grade and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1951.  Lavonne worked at the Barthalets Mercantile Store and married Donald Joseph Von Spreecken on May 19, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island. They farmed until 1971 when they moved into Bird Island.  Lavonne worked at Ringness Drug Store, Coast to Coast, RCCR and ACTS retiring in 2004.  She belonged to St. Mary’s Altar Society and was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  After retiring she enjoyed painting, reading, puzzle books, playing cards and baking.  She also found joy in volunteering at the Renville County Food Shelf.  Lavonne moved from home in Bird Island in July of 2019 to Parkview Village in Olivia and in July of 2023 to the Olivia Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center until her passing.

Lavonne is survived by her two daughters: Susan (and Jerry) Eiler of Olivia and Yvonne (and Allan) Feirer of North Prairie; and her seven siblings: Kathy Sharp, Shirley (and Bob) Tretbar, Ken (and Mary) Kopel, Dick Kopel, Jack (and Cathy) Kopel, Ann Marie Wester and Walter Kopel. Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don and her sister Janice Carson.
