John Roland “Gus” Lingl was born November 23, 1935 in Olivia, MN, to Alfred “Fritz” and Rosalia “Sal” (Muench) Lingl. He grew up in Bird Island and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Gus served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. Gus married Becky Billmeier on June 6, 1964 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island. Besides being a lifelong farmer Gus also worked with Loran’s Electric in Bird Island for many years.  He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an active member of the American Legion.  Gus could fix most anything so he loved putzing around on his farm followed by daily trips into town to meet with his coffee group. Gus liked nature, camping, summers at Kandiyohi Lake and looked forward to deer hunting with the same group every year. He enjoyed doing puzzles, carving decoys, taking cruises and trips with his family, and playing solitaire.  He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school events and Minnesota Twins bobble head games. Gus could be talked into just about anything that involved spending time with his family!

Gus is survived by his wife Becky; his daughters: Deb (and Scott) Howell of Hutchinson and their children Trista and Cora; Denise (and Keith) Johnson of Hector and their children Kiana and Stefan; Lisa Mead of Atwater (and significant other Joel Slagter) and her daughter Shayla; his sister Winnie (and Bill) Martin of Effie, MN; sister-in-law Ann Marie Lingl of Plainview, MN. Gus was preceded in death by his parents; son Brian Lingl; brothers Leander Lingl and Jerome (and Julie) Lingl; and his sister Germaine (and Oscar) Forcier.

Blessed Be His Memory
