John Lee Skrukrud, age 85, of Sacred Heart, died Monday, October 25, 2021, at his home in Sacred Heart.  A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, from 2-4 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Community Center.  Burial will be at a later date in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Sacred Heart.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

John Lee Skrukrud was born on April 1, 1936, in Montevideo, Minnesota to John Alvin and Gladys (Lerud) Skrukrud.  He grew up in Sacred Heart and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1953. He then served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958.  John and Joanne were united in marriage on June 16, 1962, at Opdal Lutheran Church south of Sacred Heart.  John farmed on the family farm north of Sacred Heart for a short time. He also worked at Rodgers Hydraulics in Granite Falls, owned his own construction company, and drove truck for Hawk Creek Farms and Cenex Land O’ Lakes. John enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, horseback riding, watching the Minnesota Vikings.  He also loved hanging out with his family and friends and they will always remember him as a jokester.

John is survived by his wife Joanne, his son and daughters:  Todd (and LaVonne) of Lusk, WY, Nicole Vanos of Sacred Heart, and Nan (and special friend Dewayne Sadler) Beck of Sacred Heart, his eight grandchildren: Amber, Mitch, Kristi (and Tom), Kiffani, Kaci (and Devin), Dakota, Kody, and Bayla; two great-great grandchildren Emma and Luke; his siblings: Jack of Kandiyohi, Tom (and Barb) of Pennsylvania, Bruce (and Diane) of Maple Grove, and Ruth (and Gary) Hopkins of Waverly; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Ramona, Geraldine, Beverly, and Dianne, and his brother Robert.
