Joan E. Baumann
Joan Baumann, age 93, of Redwood Falls passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Gertrude’s Nursing Home in Shakopee, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023 from St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 4-7 pm at the Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 am at the church.
Joan, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Borte) Bierl, was born on December 26, 1929 in Seaforth, MN.
She grew up in a close-knit community and attended the Catholic School in Wanda. She later graduated from Lamberton High School. On April 18, 1950, Joan married Romuald Baumann at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda, MN. After their marriage, they settled on the farm and raised their family of ten kids. Joan started working at Zytec, where she retired after over 32 years. They moved to Walnut Grove in 1978.
A woman of strong faith, Joan was an active member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls and a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Walnut Grove. She devoted her time to organizations such as the CCW (Council of Catholic Women), the Altar Rosary Society and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Joan had a vibrant personality and enjoyed indulging in her hobbies and interests. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Minnesota Twins. She attended Super Bowl 26 in Miami with her son Bill in 1995. She loved playing cards and was a part of her neighborhood card club.
Joan’s family meant everything to her. She was deeply loved by her children; Bill (Kathy) Baumann of Windom, MN; Ron (Jean) Baumann of Peyton, CO; Mary (Jim) Bodensteiner of Maple Grove, MN; Sally (Loren) Burmeister of Eagan, MN; Dean Baumann of Clear Lake, MN; and Charlie (Lisa) Baumann of Waconia, MN. She was a proud grandmother to 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Joan’s surviving family also includes her brother Rollie (Darlene) Bierl of Wanda, MN; sisters Carol Jones of Big Lake, MN and Clarice (Mike) Wielinski of Eagan, MN; brother-in-law Cyril (Jean) Baumann; and sisters-in-law Erna Koloski, Linda Baumann, and Loretta Hedmann.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Romuald. She also experienced the heartbreaking loss of her sons Dave, Jerry, and Rick; daughter Ginny and son-in-law Denny Lothert; brothers Larry, Mark, and Peter Bierl; sister Lorena Jenniges; as well as two great-grandchildren Aaron and Cole Baumann.
Joan’s kind nature, unwavering faith, and devotion to her loved ones leave a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
