Jerald (Jerry) Knutson, 64, of Roseau formerly of Echo and Renville died unexpectedly as a result of a farming accident on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Friday August 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, Rural Echo. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.

Jerald Kenneth Knutson was born on November 29, 1956 to Kenneth and Verdena (Giese) Knutson in Canby, Minnesota.

Jerald was a 1975 graduate of Echo High School.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1975 and served until 1978.  In 1982, Jerald graduated from Willmar Area Vo-Tech institute with a degree in Farm Management.  Jerald was a lifelong farmer and truck driver.

Jerald helped form a new chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).  He was a charter member and served as the first commander of the Northwest Minnesota Roseau Chapter 41 until the time of his death.  Jerald was awarded the Commander of the Year for the DAV of Minnesota in 2020 for his dedication to veterans.  

Jerald is survived by his wife and love of his life Elizabeth A. (Hanna) Knutson of Roseau, MN; siblings Darles (Mike) Lamfers of Amiret, MN; Donald (Cheryl) Knutson of Maynard, MN; Roger (Celeste) Knutson of Sacred Heart, MN; Marlys (Erland) Weerts of Bancroft, SD; Carol (Eddie) Clark of Diamondhead, MS; mother-in-law Mary (Richard) Hanna; father-in-law Fred (Pat Lindgren) Hefty; brothers-in-law Fred (Julie) Hanna, Aaron (Callie) Hefstad, Anthony Hefty; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Verdena Knutson.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with military honors by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard. 

Funeral will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at a time to be determined at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, Echo, MN.
