Janet Marie (Bohlman) Hagen was born on August 25, 1936 to Otto and Susie Bohlman in Granite Falls, MN. She was baptized at the United Lutheran Church and was the first person confirmed in the new Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She attended school and received her GED from the Granite Falls Public Schools.
On June 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Marine Llewelleyn “Punky” Hagen at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. They lived in Echo and Granite Falls for a short time and then moved to a farm by Wood Lake where they lived for over 60 years. They joined the Rock Valle Church in rural Echo where Janet became very active with the Women of the WELCA and served on the Synod WELCA Board. Janet held offices as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the WELCA, was President of the Conference WELCA and served on the Synod WELCA board as well as Secretary for the Church Council. She was also very active in making and hand stitching quilts which were sold at the annual Mission Sale. She loved her Church very much and continued her membership there even after she moved to Marshall, MN after Punky’s death.
Janet started working for Control Data Corp in Redwood Falls, MN 1967. Control Data changed many names over the years, but it was basically the same manufacturing company. Zytec and Artesyn Technologies were some of the name changes. She held several positions over 35 years. During this time, Janet made many friends that she kept in touch with over the years, including retirement. One of the positions Jant held was Quality Systems Manager with responsibilities in 8 foreign countries and 7 facilities in the U.S. She loved the opportunity of traveling, seeing the foreign countries and working with the people in all the facilities.
Janet and Punky also loved travel of all types. They toured all the United States except Florida and Hawaii. After retirement, they enjoyed visiting beautiful Alaska. The tour that was their greatest joy was their tour of Korea and China, to return to Korea where Punky served and was wounded in the Korean War. They also got the thrill of walking the Great Wall of China.
Punky died on December 15, 2016, which resulted in the decision to move off the farm and into Marshall where she loved to work in her flower gardens, watching and listening to the birds and riding her trike. She also loved spending time and visiting with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and neighbors.
Janet died on August 25th, 2023. She is survived by her children Carol (Lowell) Rogers, Larry (Kim) Hagen, Deb (Rick) Hagen Moe and Connie (Allen) Kamstra. Also surviving are 8 Grandchildren: Rachelle (Malika Heiller) Hagen, Jessica (Josh) Girard, Randy (Amanda) Kamstra, Dustin (Emery) Hagen, Sean Hagen, Diana (Jp) Zunini, Dan (Ashley) Johnson, Amanda (Zach) Freiborg, and 10 Great Grandchildren.
