Janet Bernice (Kasten) Anderson was the oldest daughter of Hilbert and Luella (Fischer) Kasten
and was born on August 23, 1944, in Echo, MN. Janet grew up in Echo and graduated from Echo
High School on May 31, 1962. After graduation, Janet attended the Professional Business
Institute in Minneapolis for one year, then worked as a secretary at Central Bi Products in North
Redwood Falls. On July 11, 1964, Janet was united in marriage to Carlyle “Butch” Anderson at
Peace Lutheran Church in Echo.
Janet was a woman of many hats who worked a variety of jobs throughout her life, including in
the laundry department at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview, as well as at Tersteeg’s Bakery
and Artesyn Technologies in Redwood Falls. She also took care of many children in the Belview
community, both as a daycare provider and as “Grandma Janet” to the children at Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church. Janet loved cooking for family and friends, especially lefse and her Old SOD
Days scalloped potatoes.
Janet loved her family above all else, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was
proud of the cabin Butch built, spending many days and nights at “the Lazy 5” with family and
friends. She loved music, dancing with Butch in the kitchen to the Statler Brothers and
attending bluegrass festivals. Janet enjoyed time with her coffee ladies in both Echo and
Belview. She also could be found taking the occasional walk uptown to the North/South end to
visit friends.
Janet died unexpectedly at her home in Belview on Friday, November 22, 2024. She is survived
by her children Joy Anderson, Jill Anderson, Dan (Melissa) Anderson, and Julie (Kevin) Brent;
grandchildren Brady, Hunter, Connor, Breanna, Kaylee, and Caden; siblings Dennis Kasten,
Marilyn (Arnie) Tietz, Irene Abrahamson (Steve Griffin); in-laws Donna Kasten, Bob
Abrahamson, Twyla Bavier, Bill (Kim) Anderson, Christine Huseby, and Frannie (Glenn) Schmitz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Butch, brother Duane, and in-laws Lorraine
Kasten, Roger Huseby, and Jim Bavier.
Blessed be her memory.
