James Gilbert Wenisch, affectionately known as Jim, passed away on February 5, 2023, after a long and brave journey with dementia. He was born on March 14, 1943, in Springfield, MN, the son of Clarence and Loretta (Saffert) Wenisch. Jim lived a life full of passion and purpose, marked by his love for farming, mechanics, and animals.
Jim was a farmer while also managing the local redi-mix plant for over 30 years. He had a special connection with the outdoors and was especially fond of his cattle and horses, which he started riding at the age of three. He also had a love for fishing and hunting with his family. He was a self-taught mechanic who could fix almost anything and even designed and built a self-unloading round bale trailer. Jim was also a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lamberton for over 50 years.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, with his wife of 56 years, Teresa (Seifert), and their children: Marnie (Thomas Bute and children Caitlin, Matthew, and Samuel), Timothy, Jared (Mee and children Adeline, Alaina, Noah, Annalise, Aubree, and Caleb), Greg (Crista and daughter Rylee), Colette (Brad Defauw and children Gavin, Lillian, Allie, and Ryan), Anita (Mark Vogel and children Sydney, Celia, Maxwell, and Lou). He was a proud grandparent to Tristen Wenisch, Steven Moore, special friends Rachel & Isabel, five great-grandchildren, 8 siblings – Junior (Pam) Wenisch, Linda Christenson (Ron), Lynette Ziegler (Terry), David Wenisch, Dale Wenisch (Doreen), Dean Wenisch, Tom Wenisch (Molly), and Pam Sammond; as well as many other nieces, nephews, & relatives.
Jim was preceded in death by sister Lanis, parents, brother-in-law Timothy Sammond, son Terry in 1996, and grandsons Luke and Leo Vogel and Riley Wenisch.
Jim’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the home care staff, St. John Lutheran Home, and Hospice care staff of Redwood County for their compassionate care during his journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lamberton. Jim’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
