James Robert Olson was born on January 18, 1951, in Willmar, Minnesota to Robert W. and Marlene J. (Olson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart, Minnesota, where he was a lifetime member.  He grew up in Sacred Heart and attended Sacred Heart Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1969.  He continued his education at Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota.  He then joined his father at Bob Olson Trucking, and drove truck for many years, eventually taking over the business.  Jim was united in marriage to Susan Nydahl on November 24, 1973.  They were blessed with their daughter Stacy Sue.  Jim hauled loads for Warner Manufacturing for many years and enjoyed many friendships with the employees at Sacred Heart and Plymouth, Minnesota factories.  He retired from trucking in 2019. Jim loved hunting, fishing, and cornhole tournaments. He also enjoyed his rides through the Minnesota River Valley watching the wildlife. Jim and Sue always looked forward to May 1, when they could return to their RV at Hobo Park in Starbuck, Minnesota. Jim loved driving his golf cart through the park stopping to visit with his many friends.    They spent several summers there and made many friends over the years.  His greatest joys were his family and always looked forward to visits from his grandsons, Brenden and Austin.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Susan, his daughter Stacy Peterson; his grandsons, Brenden and Austin all of Sacred Heart; his sister Jean (and Ode) Iverson of Willmar; along with nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Olson and Marlene Welch; his step mother, Gladys Olson, his stepfather George “Pat” Welch; and his brother-in-law Paul Nydahl.
