Irene Anges Sprenger was born on September 27, 1927, daughter of Edmund and Martha (Schroepfer) Windschitl in Mulligan Township, Brown County, MN. On May 6, 1947, Irene was united in marriage to Orville Sprenger at the Church of Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Family was her life’s greatest accomplishment. She took pride in the close personal relationships she had with her family. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings gave her great joy. Her hobbies and interests included listening and dancing to Polka music, playing cards, sewing, canning, quilting, and cooking. Irene enjoyed having coffee on Saturdays with her sisters. She loved sitting in her living room, looking out her window, watching her traveling admirers go by as they blew their horns. Irene was a lifelong member of the Church of Japanese Martyrs Catholic Church where she served on the parish council and with the Christian Mothers. Throughout her life, she took great comfort and guidance in her Catholic faith.
She is survived by her children – Bonnie (Darrel) Bernloehr of Mankato, Robert Sprenger of Comfrey, Cheryl (Kent) Michaelson of Eden Prairie, and Brad (Julie) Sprenger of Comfrey; grandchildren – Kristin Jensen, Tony (Molly) Bernloehr, Melissa (Shawn) Bakke, Chad (Kelly) Sprenger, Scott (Brianna) Sprenger, and Michael (Elly) Sprenger; 13 great grandchildren; sisters – Elaine Haala, Sally Holm, and Mickey Fischer; and sister-in-law Eunice Windschitl. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orville; brothers – Edwin and Lenus; and sister Adella.
Irene will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
