Hilda Mae Bach, age 86, of Renville died Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Avera Granite Falls Care Center.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Renville.  The Rev. Trevor Bailey will officiate.  Burial will be in Bethany Reformed Cemetery in Davis, South Dakota.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church in Renville.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Hilda was born on July 31, 1935, in Davis, South Dakota to Andy and Helen (DeBelts) Smit.  She grew up on the family farm near Davis and attended elementary school in Davis.  She later graduated from Hurley High School in 1953.  Hilda continued her education at Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her RN degree in 1956.  She was united in marriage to John Bach on August 29, 1956, at Bethany Reformed Church in Davis.  She worked as a nurse in South Dakota and Nebraska prior to moving to Renville in 1969.  She then worked at the Granite Falls Hospital, the Olivia Nursing Home, and finally Rice Hospital in Willmar until her retirement.  Hilda loved caring for others. She was a member of the Renville Ambulance and taught CPR classes.  She also volunteered at the Renville County Food Shelf in Olivia.  She was a very active member of First Lutheran Church in Renville and enjoyed their quilting group.  She also loved flower gardening, bird watching, embroidery, baking and canning. Hilda enjoyed attending the Turner County Fair in Parker, South Dakota.  Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed attending her kids and grandchildren’s events.

Hilda is survived by her daughters and son: Deb (and Lyle) Van Hove of Parker, South Dakota, Jan (and Harv) Ryks of Pine Island, MN, and James (and Stacey) of Renville; her grandchildren and their families: Michael Van Hove, David (and Amy) Van Hove and children Martin & William; Andy (and Susie) Ryks and children Isaac, Sawyer, Zoey; Krista (and Todd) Manderschied and children Jesse & MacKenize; Sarah (and Luke) Carroll and children Blaine & Waylon; Aaron (and Becky) Haen and children Morgan & Ethan; Ryan (and Susie) Haen; Nicholas (and Jenna) Bach and their daughter Aurelia; Jordan Bach; Ian (and Shannon) Tjaden and children Brayden & Paxton;  Devon (and Breanna) Schmitz and children Connor, Chasity, Aiden, Natalie; and Mason Schmitz; her sister-in-law Alice Johnson; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and her sisters Angeline and Elvena.
