Henry Scheibel, age 88, of Bird Island, MN, died Tuesday June 8, 2021 at the Olivia Hospital.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation for Henry is Sunday, June 20th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and will continue Monday at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Military rites will be by the Bird Island American Legion.  Memorials are preferred and will be given by the family to charities that were important to Henry.

Henry Joseph Scheibel was born on June 3, 1933 in New Ulm, MN to Egwin and Bertha (Altmann) Scheibel. He grew up on the family farm south of Bird Island. Henry graduated from St. Mary’s High School where he had played basketball on the State Tournament Team. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War period.  On September 6, 1958 Henry was united in marriage to Donna Smith at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton, MN and they were blessed with six children. He was a lifelong  farmer, raising crops and feeding cattle. Henry was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Bird Island American Legion, Bird Island Soil Service Board, and Norfolk Township Board where he served as the clerk for 38 years. Henry was a founding member in 1975 of the Bird Island Ballroom. Henry and Donna were fortunate to travel to all 50 states and 14 foreign countries. They also spent 20 years as snowbirds at Tip O’Texas RV Resort in Pharr, Texas. Henry enjoyed playing cards, golfing, camping, fishing, hunting especially pheasants and deer, wood working, and enjoyed spending time at the lake pulling kids behind the boat.

Henry is survived by his six children: Douglas (Vickie) Scheibel of Olivia, David (Charlene) Scheibel of Bird Island; Susan (Mark) Smith of Pulaski, WI, Jean (Mike) Duane of Olivia; Lori Ann (Al) Clark of Cannon Falls, and Debra Scheibel of Denver, CO; grandchildren: Naomi (Jason) Hyerdall, Melanie (Tyler) Bettin, Lindsey Scheibel  (Matt Hoffman), John Scheibel, Paul Scheibel, Joseph Scheibel, Kristina (Henrik) Rasmussen, Kimberly (Adam) Dierks, Andrew (Daiane) Seehusen, Ryan Bruns, Sara Duane, Kyle Duane, and Cassie Clark; great-grandchildren: Samantha Sikora, Daviny Scheibel, Annelise Rasmussen, Marie Rasmussen, Karoline Rasmussen, Lukas Rasmussen, Blake Dierks, and Emma Dierks; his brother Robert Scheibel; two brothers-in-law: Willis Smith and Denny (Pat) Smith; and sister-in-law, Sharon Abrahamson. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; grandson, TJ Scheibel; and sister and brother-in-law: Elizabeth (Jack) Tersteeg; sister-in-law Doris Smith; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Don Marks; and brother-in-law Jerry Abrahamson.
