Hazel Clara Butenhoff, age 93, of Renville, died Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the Olivia Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville.  The Rev. Michael Kuschel will officiate.  Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery south of Renville.  Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN

Hazel Clara (Westphal) Butenhoff was born on February 14, 1927, in Hector, Minnesota to John Edward and Anna Alvina Sophie (Kranke) Westphal.  Following her education, she worked at Stang’s Danube Oil.  She was united in marriage to Maynard Butenhoff on September 16, 1945, at Bethany Lutheran Church south of Renville.  Hazel and Maynard made their home on the farm south of Renville and she resided there until October 1st of 2019.  As well as raising her family and helping with the farm work, Hazel also worked as a cook at the Gateway Café for 8 years and the RenVilla Nursing Home for 3 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed wintering in Texas, fishing at Lake of the Woods, and Sauk Lake, gardening, canning, baking and cooking.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses: Earl (and Linda) Butenhoff of Owatonna, Calvin (and Gloria) Butenhoff of Mankato, and Loren (and Marilee) Butenhoff of Redwood Falls; 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; her special friend Gordon Krause of Olivia; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maynard, 7 brothers and three sisters.
