Haldon George Schlegel was born on March 7, 1930 to Burton and Bernice (Michael) Schlegel in Fremont, Ohio.  He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio. Haldon graduated from Ross High School, Fremont in 1948.  Haldon was united in marriage to Louise Messinger on June 26, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio. After beginning their family, Haldon and Louise moved to a farm located in Lake Lillian Township in 1957. This home held the memories of 71 years of marriage and raising five children.  Haldon was a lifelong farmer.  His hobbies included flying his Mooney and gardening.  Gardening because it was the closest thing to farming, and flying because he always wanted to get places fast.  Haldon enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting at the local grain elevator.  He was an innovative farmer and was an avid reader of both agronomy and history.  Haldon was a member of Willmar Assembly of God and was active in Sunday School for many years.

Haldon is survived by his five children: Christina Moen of Atwater, Carolyn (Russ) Livingood of Olivia, Brian (Kristin) Schlegel of Blomkest, Bethany (Paul) Leindecker of Woodbury, and Chris (JoLene) Schlegel of Lake Lillian; his grandchildren: Amy, Brandon, Carina, Carissa, Caroline, Ross, Cara, Kaitlin, Grant, Brock, Regan, Nicole, George, and Brooke, as well as 25 great-grandchildren; his brother, Howard Schlegel; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Williamson. Haldon was greeted into eternity by his loving wife, Louise; parents; grandparents; two infant children, David and Debra; grandson, John Ryan Schlegel; son-in-law, Irv Moen; brother-in-law, Gary Williamson; and sister, Janice Bloom.
