Gerrit Link

Gerrit Link, age 98, of Renville, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Olivia Hospital.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 17th at First Lutheran Church in Renville.   The Rev. Trevor Bailey will officiate.   Burial will be in Emden Christian Reformed Cemetery north of Renville.  Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the services all at the church.  Arrangements with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Gerrit Link was born on a farm near Clara City, Minnesota to Fred and Hattie (Broersma) Link.  They lived on that farm for a short time and then moved to their farm north of Renville.  Gerrit attended country school and later worked with his brother Harry doing custom bailing.  Gerrit served his country in the United States Army during WWII.  Following the service, he returned to Renville and was united in marriage to Dena DeGroot on October 27, 1948, at Emden Christian Reformed Church.  He farmed north of Renville, retiring in 1990, he then worked at the chemical plant in Renville until it closed.  Gerrit also worked during the fall harvest season at Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative. He was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Renville.  Gerrit loved playing cards and raising cattle and hogs during his farming years.  He will be remembered for his witty personality and his sense of humor, and also loved to tease.

Survivors include his sons and their spouses:  Gary (and Char) of Renville, David (and Sandy) of Renville; his daughter-in-law, Zella Link of Willmar; his grandchildren:  Mitch (and Rachel) Link, Lynette (and Brian) Bloomquist, Michelle (and Kirk) Erickson, Greg (and Cheryl) Link, Alyssa (and Michael) Nelson, and Austin (and Amanda) Link; his great grandchildren: Jessica (and Derik) Johnson, Jonny Bloomquist, Chance Erickson, Grace, Zachary, and Isaac Link, Stella, Madison, and Lauren Link, Noah and Laiken Nelson, Trey and Hallie Link;  his two great-great grandchildren, Briella and Lanna Johnson; his two brothers, Ben (and Tina) of Kalamazoo, MI, and Fred (and Judy) of Omaha, NE, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dena, his two sons, Myron and Joel, his infant great grandson, Landon Link, and his 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
