Fern Janet Schjenken

A funeral service for Fern Janet Schjenken will take place on Saturday May 13, 2023, at Christ’s Victory Church in Redwood Falls, MN beginning at 11:00 a.m. A public visitation will be held on Friday May 12, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, MN from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 4:45 p.m. Visitation will continue at Christ’s Victory Church Saturday morning at 10:00a.m. A luncheon will be held at Christ’s Victory Church Saturday’s following the funeral service. The burial will take place at Belview Cemetery Saturday May 13, 2023, following the luncheon. 

Fern Janet Schjenken was born on the family farm near MN on March 14th, 1939, to Victor and Elda (Schwartz) Rebers. She was raised in Hazel Run, MN. She graduated from Echo High School in the spring of 1957 and then continued her education at Minnesota School of Business. She was united in marriage to Richard Merle Schjenken on December 3rd, 1960, at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo, MN. The couple raised their family in Belview, MN. 

Fern’s family was important to her. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and they loved her special “Mac n Cheese”. She had a passion for gardening and enjoyed following her family history through genealogy. She was a member of Word of Life and Grace Lutheran Church’s in Belview, MN. She was an active member in the community of several different organizations. She also spent many afternoons and evenings playing cards “Hand n Foot” with friends and neighbors.

Fern died on Sunday May 7th, 2023, at Garnett Gardens Senior Living in Redwood Falls, MN. 

She is survived by her children Lori (Doug) Schroeder of Belview, Steve (Rhonda) Schjenken of Belview, Lynn (Doug) Bunting of Redwood Falls, grandchildren Matthew Schroeder, Hannah Schjenken (Bryant Haas), Megan (Aaron) Smith, Ashley (Alec Brandrup) and Nicole Bunting, step-grandchildren Jonathan (McKenzie Scott) Schroeder, Kristina (Christopher) Bulick, Shane Peterson, step-great-grandchildren Karter and Leah Schroeder, Landen and Harper Peterson, siblings Elaine Pederson, Rolland (Judy) Rebers, Dennis (Carol) Rebers, Diane (Keith) Brekke, Bobby Rebers and Brian Rebers, and many nieces and nephews.

Fern is preceded in death by her husband Richard Merle Schjenken, her parents Victor and Elda Rebers and brother-in-law Gordan Pederson. Blessed be her memory.
