Evelyn Marina Hansen

A funeral mass for Evelyn Marina Hansen will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls, MN on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 11:00a.m. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, MN from 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. Visitation will continue at church Friday morning from 10:00a.m. – 11:00a.m. A luncheon will be held at the St. Andrew parish center following the funeral mass. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery at a later date. 

Evelyn Marina Hansen was born March 27, 1932 in Fairview Township, MN to Edward and Mary (Doom) Cauwels. She was the oldest of ten children. She grew up on a farm by Marshall, MN. After graduating from high school she moved to St. Cloud, MN to attend St. Cloud Teachers College. She returned home and met her future husband Bob Hansen at the local roller skating rink. The couple was married on December 29, 1952 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, MN. For a time the couple lived in Wood Lake, MN before moving to a farm outside of Echo, MN where together they lived for sixty-two years.

Evelyn taught school at Lamberton, Marshall, and Wood Lake before staying home to raise her eight children. Evelyn and her husband Bob enjoyed polka dancing. She was active in her church and the local 4H. Evelyn served as a Judge at the area county fairs. She was an accomplished seamstress and master gardener. She had a large garden and enjoyed canning the food she grew. 

Evelyn died on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Parkview Home in Belview. 

She is survived by her children; Wayne (Sharon), Brenda (Jon), Brien (Terri), Celeste (Alan), Suzy (Bill), Steve, Traci (Joel), Ernie (Sharlie), one brother, six sisters, twenty-five grandchildren, and forty-five great-grandchildren. 

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Robert Hansen, parents Edward and Mary (Doom) Cauwels, two brothers, and three grandchildren.
