Evelyn Luella Lingle was born October 2, 1924 on the family farm at Pell Creek west of Lamberton. She was the youngest of 9 children born to Otto and Kristine (Johansen) Petersen. She graduated from Lamberton High School in 1943 and then attended Teachers Training. From there she went on to teach at several country schools in the area.

While teaching at the country school north of Revere, which was near the Lingle farm, she met Leon, the love of her life. They were united in marriage on June 20, 1948 at Sharon Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 8 children and 69 years together before Leon passed away on January 1, 2018.

In 1969 Evie began working at Lamberton Public School as a Title One Assistant for 13 years. Not only was she a lifelong teacher but also a lifelong learner. She was an avid and passionate reader with a sharp mind and quick wit, who always won at Jeopardy!

She was an excellent cook, baker, sewer and gardener. She loved to travel, and she and Leon visited every state except Alaska. Evelyn was proud of her Danish heritage and was fortunate to visit Scandinavia after retirement. Her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, to whom she was very devoted, as she loved and cared about them immensely.

Besides her family, she had many friends who were near and dear to her. Those who knew her loved her. Those who knew her well loved her deeply. She was a great storyteller and loved talking about her “bucket list”. She often referred to adages during her life, the most recent being “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.” Like a fine wine (which she loved) she aged to perfection. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her children: Kristine Lingle (Michael Scanlon) of Littleton, N.H.; Steve (Deb) Lingle of Lamberton; Dean (Deb) Lingle of Lamberton; Lisa Hildreth (Tony Lorencis) of Monroe Center, IL; Lori (Mark) Highby of Revere, MN; Brian (Kristine) Lingle of Spicer, MN; James (Valentina) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Dan Lingle (Darla Haugen) of Lamberton
