Eunice was born to Otto and Ella (Zehms) Markert on March 8, 1923 in Knierim, IA. At the age of 4, she moved with her parents to a farm 10 miles north of Sleepy Eye. She attended Evan country school #58 and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School. She was united in marriage to Delbert Sandhoefner on June 24, 1941 at the Markert farmstead. Eunice and Delbert owned and operated the DelRoy Hotel dining room and bar in Sleepy Eye for 31 years. She was also a Sleepy Eye school bus driver for 41 years. She very much enjoyed driving and sincerely cared for the students on her routes. Many of these students still remember her fondly and even now would stop for a chat whether in a store, at an event or even come to visit at her home. Eunice has been a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for 78 years, serving as a member of Ladies Aid and singing in the choir for many years. She also served on the Hospital Board for several years.

She is survived by son Lynn (Jan), Minnetonka; son-in-law Gary Simenson, Eden Prairie; daughter Jill (Bill) Reck, Sauk Rapids. Seven grandchildren: Julia, Steve (Kim), Sarah (Ryan), Krista, Heather (Rob), Jon (Martha), Holly (Danny). Great grandchildren: Quinn, Calista, Seth, Luke, Ned (Chara), Parker, Paige, Bo, Solomon, Finley, Emmett. Also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Delbert in April 2018, and daughter Renae (2017).

The family would like to thank Sharon “Bootsie” Remus for her devotion, friendship, caring support and many visits to Eunice and family since the loss of her husband Delbert. Eunice was and remained until her last days a social and elegant lady. She so much enjoyed her many forever friends who kept her life full of activity and conversation. She daily thanked her Savior for all her blessings and we count it joy to have been loved well by her.
