Ella Derickson, age 89, of Lamberton died on May 23, 2022, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 30, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a time to share stories at 6:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton and will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Highwater Lutheran Church, Lamberton.

Service will be held at the Highwater Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 10:30 am.

The clergy will be Pastor Michael Stangeland. Interment will be at the Highwater Lutheran Cemetery.

Ella Marie Derickson was born on March 17, 1933, to Martin and Grace (Barth) Klingenberg in Stately Township, Brown County, MN. After graduating as class valedictorian from Morgan High School in 1950 in Morgan, MN, she attended the Lamberton Teacher Training Department and Mankato State Teacher’s College, completing a 2 2/3 year curriculum in elementary education. Ella taught country schools for four years in Clements and Morgan, and 3rd grade in Westbrook, MN for two years. On August 22, 1954, Ella married James Stuart Derickson at the United Methodist Church in Morgan. A crucial partner of the farming operation with James, Ella was the CFO (chief financial officer), chief safety officer, angel investor and forward-thinking not only in their finances, but also in the growth of the farm, all while raising 5 kids together with Jim. She worked at Advertising Unlimited, Inc in Sleepy Eye, MN for a few years as a seasonal order preparation clerk. She enjoyed helping on the farm, crossword puzzles, quilting, camping and traveling with Jim to Hawaii, Australia, and Norway and to New York City with lady friends. Ella was a member of Highwater Lutheran Church in rural Lamberton where she was active in WELCA, Highwater Kitchen Band, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Storden Boots and Bows Square Dance Club, and Highwater Friendly Garden Club. Ella served as an election judge, 4-H Club Advisor and volunteered for many various community projects.

She is survived by daughter Debra (Leslie Rosenbaum) Derickson of Alexandria, VA and her daughter Rebecca Rosenbaum; son Dennis (Sara) Derickson of Atascadero, CA and daughters – Dagmar, Sigrid, and Gudrun Derickson; daughter Connie (Glen) Schultz of Waseca and children – Derrick (Brianna), Hannah, Megann, and Jillian Schultz; son Russell (Paula) Derickson of Lamberton and children Joel, Jamie, and Jack Derickson; son John (Brenda) Derickson of Lamberton and children Tyler (Jaylyn), Nick (Yael), Tegan (Sam) Halter, Ethan and Kaylee Derickson; 5 great grandchildren – Oliver Schultz, James, Kennedy and Lincoln Derickson, Brynlee Halter. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, sisters – Margaret Torri, Hattie Van Brocklin, Minnie Amberg, Anne Nelson, Louise Stout, Lucille Bonkoski, and brothers – John, Calvin, George, and Martin Klingenberg.
