Dorothy I. Hein (Huseby) was born on October 17, 1939, in Swedes Forest Township, Redwood County, MN to Roy and Helen (Sampson) Huseby. She was baptized and confirmed in Rock Dell Lutheran Church in Swedes Forest Township and attended school in Belview, MN, graduating from Belview High School in 1957.

On October 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Herbert Hein Jr. in Rock Dell Lutheran Church. Dorothy and Herb farmed for a few years near Belview and moved to Golden Valley, MN in 1966. Dorothy worked as a mail sorter at the main post office in downtown Minneapolis for many years, retiring in 1989. Dorothy and Herb moved back to Belview following Herb’s retirement in 2000. Dorothy was active in her churches and a long-time member of Rock Dell Ladies Aid. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting – her mittens warming the hands and hearts of many family members and friends. Dorothy loved to make music with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by singing and playing piano, guitar, or accordion. Her baking skills will be greatly missed by her family – especially her signature chocolate cake, pecan pie and English almond toffee. Each autumn, the bounty of Herb and Dorothy’s vegetable gardens were shared with family, friends, acquaintances, and total strangers alike.

Dorothy Hein entered eternal life on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at home in Belview at the age of 83 years.

She is survived by her husband Herbert Hein Jr., daughter Shelly Schultz (Hein) and son-in-law Nathan Schultz of Plymouth, MN, daughter Lorie Reilly (Hein) of Huntington Beach, CA – as well as 6 grandchildren:  Nikolaus (Jenny) Schultz, Natalie (Travis) Carr, Joshua Reilly, Jessica (Jonathon) Newkirk, Daemon Bauer and Derek Bauer – and 5 great-grandchildren: Norman and Ella Schultz, Walter and Nolan Carr and Jordan Newkirk. Also surviving are brother Roger Huseby and his wife Christine of rural Belview, and sisters Eunice Meyer (Huseby) of Watertown, SD and Marjorie Stokke (Huseby) of Las Vegas, NV and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Helen Huseby.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy’s name may be given to Great Plains Lutheran High School, 1200 Luther Lane NE Watertown, SD 5720 or the Christian educational institution of your choice.

Blessed by her memory.
