Donna Greenwell

Donna Greenwell, age 86, of Olivia died Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Olivia Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Olivia. Funeral services are Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial is in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN.

Donna Jean Greenwell was born December 1, 1934 in Lake Crystal, Minnesota to Louis and Ruth (Morphew) Torgerson.  She grew up at Garden City and attended school there.  Donna married Dale Nilus Greenwell on August 27, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashau, Iowa and they were blessed with six children. They started farming in the Butterfield/Mountain Lake area in April 1952. In March 1959 they moved to Olivia and farmed south of town. In 1985 Dale retired and they moved into Olivia. Donna was a faithful member of Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church where she participated in many different groups over the years.  Donna was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries and Red Hat’s. She enjoyed playing cards and was a part of the afternoon ladies group. Donna loved to cook and bake, raise flowers and she canned/froze all of her vegetables from her garden.  She was a wonderful homemaker and always had a spotless home even while raising six children.   Dale and Donna had enjoyed spending winter months in Texas and later in Arizona.

Donna is survived by her six children: Bev (John) Beckman of Olivia, Deborah (Paul) Greenwell-Plafcan of St. Cloud, Patricia Greenwell (special friend Harlan Rohner) of St. Cloud, Jill  Meyer of St. Cloud, Nancy (Bob) Berry of Olivia, and Michael Greenwell of Olivia; her ten grandchildren: Carrie Gronli, Andy Swanson, Eric Voigt, Hans Voigt, Alex Voigt, Joseph Butler, Sarah Butler, Jenna Greenwell, Stephanie Fuller, and Kaitlyn Greenwell; several step-grandchildren; and her 12 great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale in 2012; her son-in-law Daniel Meyer; her special nephew Bob Greenwell and her three siblings: Robert, Grace, and Louise.
