Donald McClurg, age 87, of Renville, died Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Olivia Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Noon at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church north of Renville. The Rev. David Zitgerman will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Services, Renville, MN.
Donald William McClurg was born on February 26, 1936, in Deadwood, South Dakota to Edgar and Helen (Bostrom) McClurg. He grew up in Renville and graduated from Renville High School in 1954. He then attended classes for one year at Hamline University. Don continued his education at West Point Military Academy, following graduation from the academy, he served his country in the United States Army. Following his discharge from the Army, Don returned to school at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his master’s degree. Don was united in marriage to Nancy Elliot and together they had three children. After divorce, Don was later united in marriage to Anne Farrell on March 26, 1983, in Collingswood, New Jersey and together they had one daughter. They moved to Renville in 1986, and Don owned and operated Don’s Cabinets until his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renville, the Masonic Lodge, and the Renville American Legion. He had a great interest in history, and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Don is survived by his daughters: Darlene, Ed.D (and Michael, MD,) Voorheese of Clearbrook, VA, Mary, RN, MSN (and Alice Isidro, MSPA-C) McClurg of Philadelphia, PA, and Elizabeth (and Jason) Smith of St. Paul; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anne, and his son William.
