Donald Hardin

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 10th from 1:00-4:00pm at Rubi’s Kitchen in Redwood Falls, MN. This will be an open house potluck and we are requesting you bring a dish to share.

Donald Lee Hardin (Redwood Falls, Minnesota) passed away on February 13, 2024, concluding his lengthy battle with cancer, among other ailments. If you knew Don, you’d understand that his knack for surprising remarks was matched only by his unwillingness to hold back. A self-proclaimed bibliophile, though that simply meant he had a penchant for reading more than his fair share of books, Don fancied himself an oracle of all things, generously bestowing unsolicited advice upon the unsuspecting masses and ensuring everyone was well aware of their missteps.

Born on May 22, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to James and Patricia Hardin, Don relished being their only child. He met his future wife, Marion Hardin (née Lachen), at the University of Evansville, where they both played tennis and studied education. They married on December 7, 1969, and had two kids, Heath (with Angelina) and Hilary (with Kent).

In 1982, they left Indianapolis for St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, where they owned a gift shop and played tennis year round. Ten years later, they settled in Redwood Falls, MN, fulfilling Don’s dream of owning a movie theater. They ended up with four theaters and Don knew just about everyone in town.

Don is survived by his wife, children, and seven grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of forthright opinions, unfiltered speech, and a belief in his own infallibility.
