Darlene Clark, age 90, formerly of Danube died at The Haven at Peace Village in Norwood Young America (NYA) on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Funeral services are Thursday, June 3rd at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Danube with Rev. Michael Kuschel officiating. Visitation is Thursday, June 3rd at the church from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Burial is in St. Matthew’s South Cemetery. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service in Olivia.
Darlene Dorothy Clark was born January 23, 1931 to H. Harry and Minerva (Rudisill) Winters near Madison, SD. At age ten, her family moved to Montevideo, MN. Darlene married Franklin Clark on March 20, 1949 and they were blessed with eight children. In 1982, they moved to Danube when they purchased the Gateway Truck Stop in Olivia and operated it for ten years. Darlene was an assessor for five townships in Renville County. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid evening circle. She loved her grandchildren, baking, and feeding her family. Darlene enjoyed garage sales, cards, casinos, and puzzles. She volunteered at the Food Shelf and was a caregiver to family and friends. As her health failed she moved to Norwood Young America to be near family, and peacefully passed away there May 27, 2021.
Darlene is survived by her children: Robert Clark of St. Cloud, Jack (and Delores) Clark of Glencoe, Cynthia Hansen of NYA, Jean Zrust-Kohls (and Kevin Kohls) of Mandan, ND, Marilyn (and Kenneth) Hoen of NYA, Jerry (and LeAnn) Clark of Glencoe, and Russell (and Sara) Clark of Sauk Centre; her many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Alvera Clark of NYA; brother-in-law, Doug (and Sherri) Clark of Buffalo; her sisters-in-law, Janet Winters of Montevideo and Rose Winters of Appleton; and many other relatives, friends, and daycare grandkids. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Franklin Clark; son, Richard Dean Clark; brothers: Wilbur Winters, Harold Winters, and Aaron (and Ginger) Winters; and two sons-in-law: Randy Hansen and Don Zrust.
