Curt Ziesmer

Curt Ziesmer, age 71, of Olivia, MN passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Olivia Hospital.  A memorial service will be Thursday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Matt Hausken officiating. Burial will be at the MN State Veteran’s Cemetery of Redwood Falls.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.

Curtis Steven Ziesmer was born October 12, 1952 to Harold and Irene (Kubesh) Ziesmer in Olivia, MN.  He grew up on the family farm south of Olivia. He graduated from Olivia High School in 1970 and then furthered his education at Willmar Vo-Tech School where he studied drafting. Curt served his country in the United States Air Force from March 26, 1971 to August 24, 1972 and continued his service in the Air Force Reserves from May 20, 1973 to May 19, 1976, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Curt was united in marriage to Deborah Reynolds on February 15, 1986 in Hayward, California. They made their home in Olivia, Minnesota with their three sons. Curt was a member of the Olivia American Legion. He enjoyed time spent fishing, drawing, reading, and woodworking, especially making keepsakes from photos transferred to wood. He would test his luck with scratch-off tickets – always loving a good win! Western TV shows and books brought him much joy. He really liked horses and time spent helping on the family farm. His vegetable garden kept him very busy, and to Curt there was never a bad spot in the yard for a tomato plant. If his garage door was open, you knew that he was home and you could find him sitting out there. His family meant a lot to him and he always looked forward to a good social gathering with his family and close friends.

Curt is survived by his wife, Deb of Olivia; his children: Donovan (and Kristine) Ziesmer of Bird Island and their two sons, Tyson and Preston, Sean Ziesmer of Olivia, and Christopher Reynolds of Olivia; his siblings: Kenneth (and Eleanor) Ziesmer of Olivia, Harold “Red” Ziesmer of Olivia, Richard Ziesmer of Olivia and Mary Heck of Olivia; his mother-in-law, Patricia Reynolds; his sister-in-law, Arlene Ziesmer; and many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Curt was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Patricia Swanson and Gordon Ziesmer; father-in-law, Albert Reynolds; sister-in-law, Katy Ziesmer; and great-nephew, Isaac Hoff.
