Cecelia “Babe” Rose Houdek was born on December 15, 1935 to Henry and Celia (Trochlil) Malecek in Bechyn, MN. After she graduated from Morton High School she moved into Olivia. Babe was employed in the dietary department at the Olivia Nursing Home and also babysat for various families in their own homes. She also did house cleaning and was very meticulous, especially doing windows. Cecelia married Frank Houdek on February 14, 1980 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. They made their home on his farm and after he passed away she moved back into Olivia. Babe maintained her own home until 2018 when she moved to Parkview Village Assisted Living in Olivia. Babe was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the CCW. She had loved doing embroidery on dish towels, taking pictures and making photo albums, and also collecting cat keepsakes and memorabilia. Babe enjoyed having morning coffee around town with her friends and was so good at sending birthday cards to many in the community. Babe will fondly be remembered for her wonderfully pleasant disposition and her love of spending time with her nieces, nephews and their families.
Babe is survived by her sister Ruth (and Ron) Dyrssen of Olivia; brother Leonard Malecek (and special friend Marjean Naab) of Redwood Falls; several nieces and nephews; as well as many friends. Babe was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; twin brother Henry in infancy; and niece Renee Hammack.
Blessed Be Her Memory
