Memorial services will be announced. On Friday, October 4, a private burial service will take place in Bird Island, followed by a Celebration of Life taking place from 4:00-7:00 pm at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Carol R Setzepfandt was born on November 15, 1923, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to Isabelle and Harold Wilson. She grew up in Grundy Center, raised chickens as a girl and won praise as a flute player during high school, winning a national championship. Carol went on to college where she met and married A.O.H. Setzepfandt, a veterinary student at Iowa State University. Carol and “Setze” made their home in Bird Island, in 1946, where they set about developing a veterinary business. As a homemaker, Carol was instrumental in handling the back story of Setze’s success as a veterinarian. She handled taking calls and maintaining a very busy office while, over time, taking care of four children. Setze eventually entered the world of politics, becoming a state representative and a state senator. Carol was there with him throughout a busy schedule while they resided in St. Paul. Carol was especially fond of her and Setze’s cabin on Crane Lake, in the Minnesota boundary waters. This was their retreat in later life; a place of rest and comfort.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, A.O.H. Setzepfandt, Jr; a sister and two brothers. She is survived by her four children, A.O.H. III “Bud”, Paul (Colleen), Sue Smith (Doug), and Scott (Lisa), along with seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Blessed Be Her Memory
