Carol Barchenger
Caroline “Carol” Barchenger, age 89, of Olivia, MN died on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at RenVilla Healthcare Center in Renville. Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Living Word Church in Redwood Falls with Pastor Nathan Belkstrom officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and will continue for one hour at the church in Redwood Falls on Thursday. Burial will be at Grove Lake Cemetery, rural Brooten at a later date.
Caroline Victoria Barchenger, “Carol”, was born July 2, 1933, in Sauk Centre, MN, to Henry and Mathilda (Hintz) Spooner. She graduated from Sauk Centre high school in 1951; then went to work at Shriner’s Hospital in Minneapolis. April 30, 1955, Carol married Henry Barchenger and they were blessed with one son and two daughters. They moved from Sauk Centre to Paynesville, MN, and lived there for seven months before moving to Olivia, MN, the summer of 1969. Carol worked at the Renville County Hospital for seven years, and was known for her monthly decorated bulletin boards in various areas in the hospital. In addition, she also decorated bulletin boards at the nursing home. She was a faithful member of Living Word church in Redwood Falls, MN, and decorated the bulletin boards there each month. Henry and Carol cleaned the church for 19 years before retiring from that task, and Carol taught Sunday School and led prayer meeting as well. Carol is also known for her decorated cookies and cakes, her beautiful handwriting, and her love for the Lord. She passed away August 4, 2022, at the RenVilla Healthcare Center.
Carol is survived by her children, Vicki (and Ron) Warden of Friday Harbor, WA, and her son Steven of Olivia, MN; her two grandchildren, Heather and Jeron; her two sisters, Lillian (and Frank) Branson of Corsicana, TX, and Shirley (and Hugh) Hetzer of Minden, NV; and her brother, Arthur (and Doris) Spooner of St. Pauls, NC. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; her daughter, Julie Ann; and her older brother, Robert James.
