C. Donald “Sandy” Alcorn, age 90 of Marshall, formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Avera Hospital in Marshall after a brief illness.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at Walnut Grove Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.  Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Walnut Grove.  Online condolences may be seen at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Clifford Donald “Sandy” Alcorn was born January 7, 1932 to C.D. and Elizabeth (Gossman) Alcorn in Bridgewater, South Dakota.  He received the sacraments from the Catholic Church.  In 1949, Sandy graduated from Walnut Grove High School.  On June 11, 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Polejewski, in Minneota.  Sandy was a lifelong farmer north of Walnut Grove where he raised hogs, cattle, corn, soybeans, and small grains. For 51 years, Sandy drove bus for the Walnut Grove Public Schools.  He greatly enjoyed getting to know the students on the regular morning and afternoon routes as well as driving to extra-curricular activities.  Sandy was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Walnut Grove.  He served as a trustee, council member, lector and Eucharistic minister.  Sandy was a Johnsonville Township Board member for over 45 years and was involved with Knights of Columbus and Lions Club.  You could often find him doing Sudoku puzzles, shooting pool and playing cards, especially poker.  He was a regular at Jackpot Junction.  Sandy very much looked forward to and loved to go hunting and fishing with his family.

Sandy is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of 66 years; children: Cindy (Neil) Klapperich of Oakes, ND, Joe (Deb) Alcorn of Walnut Grove, Julie (Paul) Choudek of Sioux Falls and Tim (Bobbie) Alcorn of Granite Falls; grandchildren: Elliot (Brittany) Klapperich, Austin Klapperich, Andy Alcorn, Taylor (Kim) Choudek, Claire (Dan) Krokker, Peter Choudek, Tyler (Adria) Alcorn, Dalton (Courtney) Alcorn, Landon Alcorn, Steehl O’Brien, Britta O’Brien, and Riley Alcorn; great grandchildren: VieAnn, Dane, Jameson and Asher Klapperich, Grace Krokker, and Arabella and Adeline Alcorn; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Dr. William Alcorn, James Alcorn, Mary Como, Annette “Sug” Markell and Robert “Bob” Alcorn, and grandson, Nathan Klapperich.
